Ohiwa Explorer Guided Kayak Tour

Ohiwa Explorer Guided Kayak Tour

Ohiwa Harbour, where we live, is a natural inlet on the Bay of Plenty coast and is rated by many as one of New Zealand’s most beautiful Harbours. It’s a unique natural environment with many islands and 86kms of harbour coastline. There are numerous secluded beaches and sheltered corners and it’s not difficult to find some peace and seclusion. It also has a fascinating history of both Māori and European settlement and activity.

Our two and a half hour guided tours use a variety of launch sites which vary depending the tide and weather and with safety in mind.

Its an ideal place for those new to kayaking or for families with young children and there are opportunities to view wildlife in close proximity. The Harbour is home to a large variety of rays and fish such as Kahawai and Mullet that are often seen on our trips. Orca visit the Harbour several times a year and New Zealand Fur Seals and Little Blue Penguins are spotted on occasion.

Ohiwa’s abundant bird life attracts visitors from all over the world and is home to many species including Kingfishers, Godwits and Herons.

As the Harbour water can be a couple of degrees warmer than the ocean, a swim at a secluded beach is always tempting during our tours.

Double and single kayaks are available.
