Ohiwa Explorer Guided Kayak Tour

Ohiwa Harbour, is the Kiwi destination you dreamed of and is rated by many as one of New Zealand’s most beautiful Harbours. It’s a unique natural harbour with many islands and 86kms of coastline. There are numerous secluded beaches and sheltered corners, fringed by ancient pohutakawa trees (some up to 800 years old) and it’s not difficult to find some peace and isolation. Ohiwa also has a fascinating history of both Māori and European settlement and activity and there is evidence all around of previous inhabitants.
Our two and a half hour guided tours use a variety of launch sites which vary depending on the tide and weather and with safety in mind. On tour, you can expect a home baked morning tea and some freshly brewed beverage.
It's an ideal place for those new to kayaking or for families with young children and there are opportunities to view wildlife in close proximity. The Harbour is home to a large variety of rays and fish such as Kahawai and Mullet that are often seen on our trips. Orca visit the Harbour several times a year and New Zealand Fur Seals and Little Blue Penguins are spotted on occasion. In addition, Ohiwa’s abundant bird life attracts visitors from all over the world and is home to many species including Kingfishers, Godwits and Herons.
As the Harbour water can be a couple of degrees warmer than the ocean, a swim at a secluded beach is always tempting during our tours.
Double and single kayaks are available.
